Help Find Billy the Dog

The following information came from Mutts4Rescue, a nonprofit animal rescue organization:

Billy bolted from his new owners yard yesterday when someone was coming in. Billy was saved from a hoarder and then waited 6 yrs to find his forever home this past weekend! He is still adjusting and doesn't know the area. PLEASE don't chase!! HELP!

Because Billy is new to his surroundings, he is probably scared, so Mutts4Rescue suggests calling animal control if you see him instead of trying to chase him.

Animal control can be reached at 508-647-9545.

I live in Natick near the town forest and walk my dog there often. It would be helpful to know what area of Natick Billy started out from.

He was in my fenced-in back yard with my dogs this morning about 7:15. When I went out to investigate, he got scared and escaped. The then took off up the street. I live on Blossom Circle near Wilson and Ben Hem schools.

We adopted a 1 year old lab/greyhound mix last year and she escaped when we pulled over on the road to see if we had a flat tire. After a day or so of chasing her around the woods, we got a trap crate and put it near where a neighbor saw her running in and out of a hiding place. We put a huge bowl of food in it and she was so hungry, she ran in and the door shut and we were able to get her back. I hope you get Billy back! It's so scary when you can't find them.

If you see Billy, please put food out to establish an eating area for him. He is afraid and will run. We have a trap but just don't know where to set it up. Seems like the only want to get him is trap him with enticing food inside. It would be great if someone could get him into an enclosed area. Thank you for helping! Linda

At this very moment, Billy is cornered in someone's fenced in backyard. His owner, Agnes is about to enter the house with a bacon double cheeseburger. I think he's as good as home. Keep your paws crossed. Will update momentarily. Linda :-)

Billy is still out there. Please do not attempt to catch him, or even approach him. This is a fragile situation- and the best you can do for Billy is to report a sighting immediately to his owner Agnes 508 728 1997

Try bacon pieces - they have a strong smell and I have coaxed many dogs with it. It is very hard to catch a timid or wary dog - they will take off at the slightest wrong move. If you are near a fenced in area (chain link or one that does not have gaps at ground level and is not so low the dog can jump it), you can "lead" the dog in by walking and dropping bits of bacon into the fenced in area, but you need someone to be to shut the door. It is important to wait until the bait person is well inside the enclosure before making a move to shut the gate.

Another trick, if the dog is used to cars and likes going for rides, is to open the car door and let the dog jump in. You would be surprised how effective it is for any dog that likes going for rides or thinks you will be bringing him back to his home.

Would a piece of prime rib with a big bone make him stay in one place? I wish he would just stop running. Do you have his former owner's voice on your phone so he could hear her? Just a thought!

There was one sighting early this morning. Agnes knows where. A gentleman saw Billy sitting in the middle of the road and they when he approached him he limped away. Several people searched today and came up empty. His fostermom of six years from Louisiana is coming here for a week starting Thursday. We hope and pray that Billy will hear her voice and come running.

BILLY IS FINALLY HOME EVERYONE!!!! This morning at 5am, Agnes got a call that he was on her street. She went outside and played the recorded voice of his fostermom of six years from Louisiana calling out his name and he came running. He is a little thinner than when he left but is fine and relaxing on the couch where it's nice and warm. Thank you everyone who helped with the sightings and trying to bring Billy home. The town of Natick rocks!!!! The best part is that Billy gets to see his fostermom today. What a perfect ending to this story!
