Students at the Brown School in Natick learn important skills from Staples employees
Second grade students at the Brown School in Natick recently learned important lessons focused on financial literacy, taught by employees from Staples. The Junior Achievement of Northern New England (JANNE) JA in a Day program is a fun, intensive crash course on business and economic concepts for elementary school students. JANNE’s traditional elementary school curriculum is condensed into one, action-packed and exciting day-long experience. Students learn basic economic principles, are exposed to concepts such as needs and wants, spending and earning, jobs within the community, taxes, voting, and being responsible consumers.
JA in a Day provided the students with hands-on, interactive learning activities that tie into their social studies curricula and provided the Staples JANNE volunteers a unique and rewarding team-building experience.
“Junior Achievement of Northern New England is truly grateful to Staples for helping to make a difference in the lives of local students – our future workforce - by teaching them valuable, real-life lessons,” said Emily Neill, President of Junior Achievement of Northern New England and Natick resident.
For the 2011-2012 school year, Junior Achievement of Northern New England (JANNE) implemented 1,535 programs throughout 200 schools and after-school sites, reaching over 36,000 youth through the efforts of over 1,100 trained volunteers. Serving students in nine Massachusetts counties and the entire state of New Hampshire, JANNE focuses on impacting “at risk” youth, and reaching optimal students within its territory. All programs are provided at no cost to school and organizations. JANNE is a non-profit 501(c) 3 charity and is supported by corporations, individuals, foundations and special events.
