5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 11
State legislators get a tour of the new Natick High School today.
1. Kids, make sure to eat your Wheaties and spinach for the rest of the week. On Saturday, from 1:30 3 p.m., GymFit will host a board and brick-breaking clinic for karate students. The kids will learn and practice, before attempting to actually break a brick or a board.
2. Rep. David Linsky (D-Natick) will join other area legislators for a tour of the new Natick High School today.
“The new Natick High School is a model for many other communities. It is a first class, energy efficient facility that was built on a reasonable budget," Linsky said in a statement. "I look forward to giving my colleagues a sneak peak at the new building. I can’t wait for the ribbon cutting later this year.”
The school is set to open for the start of the school year in the fall. It will include an indoor walking track for the public and long list of other amenities not found at the current high school.
3. Collection begins today for the Lilja Fair. Donate small toys (like those provided in Happy Meals) as well as clean or gently-used stuffed animals to be given away. Collection for the June 3 event will be everyday until May 18 during the 2:30 to 3 p.m. school pick up.
4. Congratulations to Dr. John Geddes, a Natick resident and mathematics professor at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, who was featured in The Princeton Review's "The Best 300 Teachers" book.
5. The Natick Farmers Market on the Natick Common starts back up again this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
