The following information was submitted by the Friends of Cheryl Chagnon.
Friends of Natick resident Cheryl Chagnon are joining forces to give back to the woman that always gave her all to them and to her community. Next month, they will host a fundraiser to help support Chagnon, a single mother suffering from lymphoma.
Chagnon, who is a part-time school crossing guard and occupational therapist, was first diagnosed with lymphoma in 1997, after the birth of her youngest son. Since then, she has gone through multiple rounds of treatment, offering support to others fighting cancer.
In 1999, Chagnon began running, participating in the Falmouth Road Race to raise money for lyphoma research. Three years later, she began her own charity called the Cheryl Chagnon Lymphoma Research Fund to benefit the Boston area. The funds raised are used to purchase research equipment to help fight the disease.
In Septemebr last year, Chagnon received her second stem-cell cord blood transplant and is expected to be unable to work for two years while she recovers.
Chagnon's friends have organized a fundraiser dance on March 10 to help her with the financial burden of her mortgage, car payments and other household expenses.
The dance will be at the Natick Lodge of Elks at 95 Speen St. from 7 p.m. to midnight. The suggested donation at the door is $15 per person. There will be a cash bar, raffle, snacks and concert by Cosmic Igloo.
