NStar to Conduct Infared Transmission Line Inspection Today
NStar will begin a week-long process of using helicopter-mounted infared scanning devices to inspect power lines today.
NStar will use helicopters to scan transmission lines today in an attempt to detect potential problems that would normally be invisible to inspectors.
The process is scheduled to take about a week, a press release from NStar said.
“Our annual helicopter inspections of the transmission lines in Eastern Massachusetts are a critical part of NStar’s commitment to providing that reliable service,” Werner Schweiger, NStar's President said in a press release.
NStar says the process will not require the helicopter to hover over the lines for long periods of time.
"This equipment helps engineers detect possible problems before they become visible to the naked eye, allowing them to schedule any necessary corrections before reliability issues arise," the press release said.
