Obituaries: Margaret Connolly, Guy Crowe, Robert Whitney, Serge Grandoni

Natick lost 4 members of the Greatest Generation last week.

Margaret E. “Duchess” Connolly, 102, a longtime Natick resident, died on Monday evening, November 5. Born and raised in Wellesley, she worked as a bookkeeper into her 80's. A Communicant of both Saint Patrick’s and Saint Linus’ Churches, Margaret is most remembered as a loving and doting aunt of a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews. She was buried in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Needham.

Guy T. Crowe, LT USN (ret.), age 90, died November 8. Born in Danielsville, GA, and raise in SC, he enlisted with the Navy after high school, and began an illustrious career as an aviator. He was a pioneer helicopter pilot and a member of the Silver Eagles. He was a test pilot for the Army and worked for the FAA for 20 years. After his retirement, he became Chief Pilot and Vice President of Operations of Mid-Pacific Airlines.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Christine, as well as 3 children, six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He will be buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Plaistow, NH.

Robert F. Whitney, 89, a lifelong Natick resident and local banker, died on Thursday morning, November 8. He was a graduate of Natick High School and enlisted with the Army in 1943. He then served as a supply Sergeant in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre for the duration of World War II. Upon returning from the war, he spent his career with the Natick Federal Savings Bank, which was co-founded by his grandfather.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anita in 2001, and is survived by 5 children and six grandchildren. His Memorial Service will be held at the First Congregational Church on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Old Dell Park Cemetery.

Serge Grandoni, 85, of Millis, a former resident of Natick for 50 years, passed away peacefully on November 10. Born in Framingham, he was a US Navy Veteran who served from 1945-1947. He was a banker who spent his entire career with Wellesley National Bank. He was a member of the Albanian Orthodox Church of the Annunciation.

He was predeceased in 2001 by his wife of 50 years, Mary, and is survived by one daughter and five granddaughters. He will be buried in Dell Park Cemetery.
