Obituaries: Bill McKenzie, Emma Bonica, Robert Kime, Alice Schaefer
Natick has lost four notable residents, including a centenarian.
William “Bill” Alexander McKenzie, 82, died November 26. Born in Dorchester, he attended Boston Trade School and became a master cabinet maker like his father. He was the owner of McKenzie Cabinet Shop in Needham until he was 75 years old.
He was predecesed by his wife of 52 years, Eleanor, in 2003. He is survived by 3 children and 4 grandchildren. His funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, with burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Emma B. Bonica, 66 died November 25. She was born in Roxbury and settled in Natick in 1979. She was most recently employed by Bernardi Toyota.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Arthur, 4 children and 2 grandchildren. There will be no public funeral service. Donations may be made in her memory to the Morse Institute Library, 14 East Central Street, Natick, MA 01760 Attn: Charlie.
Robert J. Kime, 86, passed away on November 25. Born in Charlestown, he attended the State Teacher’s College in Boston. He began his Natick teaching career in 1959 teaching industrial arts at Wilson Junior High School, where he taught until his retirement in 1990. He was also the summer program director for the YMCA and the Boy’s Clubs of America, and a member of the Natick Elks.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Marie, two children and four grandchildren. His funeral Mass and burial services took place on December 1.
Alice (Parmenter) Schaefer, a lifelong resident of Natick, died November 27, having celebrated her 100th birthday on October 16th. She was born and raised in Natick, and graduated from Natick High and worked at Natick Federal Bank. She went to work for Corcoran Havlin Insurance in Wellesley, and headed up the new office when they opened in Natick. She continued to work until she was 80.
She is survived by 2 children, 3 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. There will be no public service. You may honor Alice’s memory by supporting the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind at 600 Washington Street, Boston, MA 02111, Attn: Tom Lee.
