POLL: Most Support Doctor-Assisted Suicide: Do You?
A recent poll by Public Policy Polling shows that 43 percent of Massachusetts residents are in favor of physician-assisted suicide, while 37 percent said they are opposed to it.
A recent poll by Public Policy Polling shows more Massachusetts residents are in favor of assisted suicide than not.
Out of the 936 people polled between March 16 and March 18, 43 percent said they would be in favor of legalizing assisted suicide, while 37 percent said they are against it and 20 percent are unsure. Currently, physician-assisted suicide is legalized in only three states—Oregon, Montana and Washington, according to Boston Magazine.
Amongst older residents, however, the number of those that oppose assisted suicide rises. Forty-four percent of those polled over the age of 65 said they are against it. Those between 46 and 65, however, had the highest number in favor of the idea at 49 percent.
In today's poll question, we're asking: Do you support the legalization of physician-assisted suicide?
Let us know what you think by voting in our poll and sharing your thoughts in the comments section.

There is absolutely no reason for someone whose life is clearly at an end to have to suffer out those last moments in agony. Doctors may not be able to pinpoint the exact moment when someone's life will end but there are plenty of instances when they know that moment is imminent. If someone can be sent off to wherever it is they believe they are headed sooner and not have to needlessly suffer, I believe we are BEHOLDEN to assist in that assistance.

Yes I do. Putting individuals and their families through unnecessary hell in their last days is unconscionable to me. Additionally, those same health care resources could be used on someone with a future. Resources are finite and suffering isn't--it SHOULD be the other way around.

The proposed law is a recipe for elder abuse. Also, we are not necessarily talking about people who are dying. See http://www.massagainstassistedsuicide.org
