POLL: Should Unbuckled Dogs Draw Higher Fines Than People?

Should Massachusetts follow New Jersey's lead?

In New Jersey, residents can say goodbye to your faithful companion hopping into your car, sitting in the passenger seat and hanging his shaggy head out of the window tasting the freedom of the open road. Penalties for unrestrained dogs range from $250 to $1,000 and as much as six months in jail.

What do you think? Should Massachusetts consider a similar fee structure? Take our poll and let us know.

  • Do you agree with New Jersey's fines for unrestrained dogs?

Those of you who disagree with the fines: why? Too steep? Do you think there shouldn't be fees at all?

Our dog was in a car accident with my husband. She wasn't hurt, however she was terrified after that to get in the car. Now she always wears a doggie seatbelt! Much safer! Fines seem a little steep...It is what it is!

Denise, my dog (pictured in this photo) would love the opportunity to stick her nose out the window...but you're right, not safe! I'll let her walk around in the car when it's parked. :-)

If you don't want your dog to get hurt, then don't put them in the car. We don't need the government telling us how to run our lives or how to be safe.

Way to many restrictions in everything.

Ridiculous. This is what our "representatives" are wasting our tax dollars on, rather than addressing real issues. Dog owners- you are responsible for your pet. Act accordingly. To be wasting resources like this on such a total nonsense "issue" when there are HUMAN problems which should be attended to is nothing short of laughable.
