Rep. Linsky Will Speak at One Million Moms for Gun Control Rally
The Greater Boston Area Chapter of One Million Moms for Gun Control will gather and march at the State House tomorrow to support common sense gun legislation.
The following information was provided by Rep. David Linsky's office:
State Representative David Linsky (D-Natick) announced today that he will be speaking at the One Million Moms for Gun Control Great Boston Area Chapter rally this Saturday in front of the State House.
The One Million Moms for Gun Control Greater Boston Area Chapter will gather and march at The State House to support common sense gun legislation outside the State House, 24 Beacon Street, Boston, MA. The event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 11:30 a.m.
Representative Linsky is the lead sponsor of “An Act to Reduce Gun Violence and to Protect the Citizens of the Commonwealth,” comprehensive gun violence prevention legislation aimed at closing loopholes in existing state laws, requiring mental health background checks, strengthening gun storage requirements, and requiring liability insurance for gun owners.
Linsky served as Chairman of House Committee on Post Audit and Oversight during the 2011-2012 legislative session, and was an Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County for 14 years prior to becoming a State Representative. Since first being elected to the House in 1999 he has been an advocate for effective gun violence prevention and gun safety laws. He represents Natick, Millis and Sherborn in the House.

Linsky is a one trick pony who was clear in his press release last week. He does not want to address illegal guns and violence but rather to reduce the access to firearm ownership. He wants to go after the law abiding gun owners who are NOT the problem. Vt has virtually no gun laws, you want a gun, go and buy one. They have no gun permits, you use your drivers license for ID. They have practically ZERO gun crime. Guns are not the issue, criminals are the issue. Passing laws only affect those who are law abiding and will follow them. The criminals seeking to murder, rob, rape, etc. are not going to follow the law.
Linksky should worry about the economy and lowering taxes rather than an ill conceived law that is very likely unconstitutional. Linksy wants to run for Middlesex county DA, so he thinks this is his spotlight moment. He's a two bit lifelong public sector hack. He couldn't survive in a private sector job for a month.

Very, very well said. It doesn't matter what Linsky says or the Legislature does at this point. The line in the sand has been drawn...if they step over it...we will NOT obey these laws. The State of Massachusetts can go screw itself.

Most of the massacre killings were by "law abiding citizens" - who were law abiding up until they started killing people. Despite the NRA's objection to the collection of statistical evidence on the killers, the guns used, and whether the guns were licensed, there are statistics both for the US and worldwide. Many of these people without criminal records used permitted guns. The NRA doesn't care how many people are killed - they are lobbyists for gun producers and their only goal is to sell more guns. For many of us, we are concerned about people like this guy, who was not a criminal, had an arsenal of weapons, and was planning harm to a list of people - if he did not have a habit of turning the gas on and endangering the people in the 100's of units in the complex, he may have ended up carrying out his plan. http://www.socialaw.com/slip.htm?cid=21867&sid=119

The NRA does care about gun violence. There is no group who is more involved with gun safety in the US than the NRA. You have no idea what you are talking about. You are just spouting talking points you've heard.

Yeah all criminals are law abiding until they break the law.
Firearms are used several million times a year to prevent crimes of rape, robbery, murder, etc. by lawful gun owners. The people who use guns in a criminal manor are the minority. And they are using guns for criminal purposes thus they will not obey exiting or new gun laws.
So this guy who "may" have. He could have turned the gas on and used it as a bomb to blow up the building and kill maybe a hundred people. There are about 1 million people in Massachusetts with firearm permits. How often are any of them ones who used guns in a criminal way?
Tim McVeigh used ZERO guns and killed several hundred. There are many weapons that could be used and firearm laws do not affect the black market for illegal guns.

95% of his proposal are nothing more than deference measures to make it as hard and expensive to own a firearm as possible. He's spitting in the face of sportsmen and hunters despite his assertions otherwise. These ridiculous people make life exponentially harder for those of us who don't live in the lala land around 128 or Amherst.... I have yet to hear back from his office as to whether or not my homeowners insurance will qualify for his ridiculous " liability" requirement. I also have yet to hear back if asking for a Class B that will replace FID becomes "shall" by the local police chief, thereby allowing a local chief with their own political leanings from keeping me or my sons from hunting as they currently can. I have been asking for a couple years now for my company to transfer me to location in Pennsylvania, between the new tax proposals and this gun law I want out, I'll take my degree from MIT with me and use it to boost another states economy...

The NRA is a lobbyist for the gun manufacturers - check YOUR facts. Several million rapes, robberies, murders prevented by lawful gun owners? Really? Can you back that up with "facts"? As for the guy who "may have" carried out his plan, you apparently have no problem with people like him owning dozens of guns, including assault rifles?

The NRA has 5 million dues paying members. They are a representative of their members. The NRA is a civil rights group whose past work included protecting the rights of black people in the south from racist KKK groups. The NRA fought to protest their ability to arm themselves.
http://www.cato.org/guns-and-self-defense A small sampling. Personal protection happens everyday, most of the time there are no shots fired and it is never reported. The mere sight of the gun will deter the criminal

I have no issue with legal gun ownership. If someone uses their guns in a criminal manor they should be prosecuted and lose the right in the future.
