Should Natick Build a Dog Park?
Many communities have created parks where their dogs can run loose in fenced-in areas.
When Patch asked you on Facebook what Natick wanted for Christmas, a number of people expressed interest in establishing a dog park.
Melissa Cusson, a Natick resident who runs the Daily Dog Blog with a friend, asked where the town stands on creating a dog park on our Facebook page.
In an email, Selectman Carol Gloff wrote, "The Board of Selectmen has not had any discussions about creating a dog park."
But should they discuss it? Do you think Natick should build a dog park? Tell us what you think in the comments section.

Yes yes yes! The town is in the midst of planning for the new JJ Lane Park on Speen St and now is the perfect opportunity! I went to a planning meeting for the park to request a dog park and the Rec & Park's Dick Cugini explicitly said there's no plan for a dog run in the new park. If others want a dog park as I do, we need to attend the planning meeting and make a compelling case for it. Dog parks are a great asset for the community, providing a place for people and dogs to socialize and get exercise. Dog owners are less likely to let their dogs off-leash in on-leash parks if there is a dog park, and negative dog behaviors are reduced when dogs are given adequate exercise. So yes, Natick should build a dog park, and has an immediate opportunity to do so!

No natick shouldn't waste money. They should cut taxes.

We don't need it, how much will it cost? Who is going to maintain it...cost? We need many more important things. How about fixing our bridges, potholes etc.

Absolutely, yes! Many towns are providing these venues. If we can have walking trails, why can't we have open air, green spaces reserved for our animals to run free?

Yes. It would be a great asset to our community. It would only need to have a fence down the middle to have 2 areas to separate small and large dogs.

Yes, absolutely! It would be great for Natick residents, both human and canine. I drive all the way to Medway Dog Park several times a week so my dog can run and play safely off leash. We could use their rules and organization as a template and tweek it to fit our town. Let's do it!

I am not a dog owner but I have to say that Natick dog owners are so responsible as far as keeping dogs on leashes and picking up after them. However, many of us have small yards here in Natick and dogs need to run and play. Just like children, dogs love to socialize with other dogs! I think it would be great. I have dog owner friends who met at a dog park and are now married! As playgrounds are for us parents, dog parks are great places to sit back while your dog plays as you socialize and meet new people! Go for it Natick!

A dog park would be a wonderful addition to our town. Maintenance could be very minimal. I know a lot of dogs and their families that could benefit from having a park.

I am a dog owner and would LOVE a place for my two small dogs to socialize freely with other dogs. As far as maintaining a park, I am sure that people that use it could volunteer to help with the clean up and maintenance of such a venue. Or charge a small fee for the use of it. Let's do it!

Love the idea, my dog would love to play with other dogs. The town could raise money though the local pet stores, by allowing them to advertise at the park.
