What Street in Natick has the Biggest Speeding Problem?

There are a lot of people who have trouble obeying the speed limit, but which street in Natick do you think has the biggest problem with speeding?

On Friday we asked you what you would ban in Natick.

Between the article on Natick Patch and our Facebook page, we heard a number of different ideas.

But one stuck out as an issue that fell under a different category. Reader DGM commented about the amount of people who speed on his street everyday.

Many people have trouble obeying the speed limit, but is there one particular area of Natick where people tend to speed most often? Is there one street in Natick where people often drive too fast? Tell us in the comments section below.

I live on Burning Tree Rd. People use this street as a cut through and continuously speed down this street. Right by my house there is a bend in the road and we have been waiting one day for a car to take this curve a bit too fast and end up on someone's front lawn. This street is also heavily walked by commuters walking to the train who need to walk in the street in the winter due to unplowed sidewalks. This also poses a problem. This street would benefit from speedbumps or at least a detail giving tickets every so often.

i live on burning tree road also, and agree with you completely. i've had my mailbox knocked down twice (i live on a curve) and once (20 years ago) witnessed a van over steer at the curve and roll over into the creek. (beaver creek?)

Riverbend Dr not only has speeders but drivers who do not follow the rules of the road. When it comes to who has the right of way, Riverbend is the main road and those drivers turning from Aqueduct, Rockridge or Ernst need to yield to the pedestrians or drivers on Riverbend.

Pleasant Street, in South Natick heading toward the Center is a notorious speed lane for vehicles of all types, especially lawn contractor and other trucks as well as autos . As a 45 year resident we have not quite seen it come from horse and buggy days , but it has added much "cut thru" traffic from the Walpole, Medfield and Dover area, including buses & large semi trucks, all traveling well above the posted speed level. There is NEVER any enforcement in evidence. There needs to be a slow down signage for the Glen St outlet and to the Rt 16 intersection, especially for vehicles traveling too fast around the Pleasant St bend at Glen and into the congested village center. How about a slow down system, such as Wellesley installed in Weston Road between Rt 16 and Rt 9, for this area of South Natick?
My experience is that nothing will get done unless ALL those on Pleasant St unite with a solution and put on pressure for enforcement. Is there anyone in the neighborhood who wants to lead this?? In the early 1990's we finally got the installation of a raised sidewalk by neighborhood advocacy, its time to tame the speeders and limit the truck and heavy equipment vehicles that use this former neighborhood road. Marion Street - Regardless of the Marion Street bridge being closed, people fly up and down Marion - completely disregarding the residents trying to pull out of driveways, people walking on sidewalks and kids playing in the yards. There might as well be no stop sign at the intersection of Marion/North Ave because now that there is no bridge, nobody bothers stopping.

This is not the first time this has come up in Natick Patch. We know what the issues are but nothing gets done. This is how our country is run. Just like we talk about guns and violent games but nothing gets done, this is a known issue for years. Human rights are more an important than Human Life. Unfortunately, we have to lose a life or lives before we start to act on anything. We can talk about roads all we want but it just leads to a dead end.

I think you've brought up a good idea, Mel. Do you (and this question isn't limited to Mel, just he pointed it out) have any suggestions for trying to fix the speeding problems on any of the streets that people have mentioned?

I will throw this out to start a discussion. ( I preface it with I am NOT for it) But anyway. There was a woman who lived on Mill St. who sat at at the end of her driveway with a fake radar gun and ALL traffic slowed down when they saw her! I am not saying to do that because it can lead to accidents and then who is liable etc. Maybe there is a way town people can legally do something similar to help slow people down. But I just wanted to throw that out there. I am NOT for a vigilante traffic posse lol. Ideally the town would enforce the traffic laws and we wouldn't have to discuss this. BUT there are only so many officers and I am aware there is other crime they need to attend to. Just starting a conversation here!

PINE Street is also a cut through we have people who test drive cars from the different dealerships driving way to fast. I have had 3 car accidents happen on my property in the past 15 years I have been here. They also raised the speed limit from 30 mph to 35 mph in recent years. There are no side walks and the road is fairly narrow.
