The Natick boys’ varsity lacrosse team opened up the 2011 campaign with an 11 to 4 win over Nipmuc on Wednesday. Natick was led by Kris Funk (three goals and three assists), JJ Kacoyanis (three goals and two assists) and Sean Ahern (two goals and two assists) with Cam Brown chipping in with one goal and one assist. Tim Dunn did a great job on face-offs winning 90 percent of them while chipping in with one goal.Doug Dube was strong in net with seven saves. The defense played well led by Joe Manganaro, Brian Tingley and Matt Kustra.

The Natick Police chief badge changed hands Friday as interim chief Nicholas Mabardy left the department after 42 years to make way for a new chief, James Hicks. Natick residents, families, friends and colleages filled the Lebowitz meeting room of the Morse Institute library to watch the historic event unfold. Hicks did not address the crowd with notecards, instead saying he would rather speak from the heart. "I have a lot to live up to and I promise I will. Almost 1,000 people attended the first-ever Taste of MetroWest Tuesday at the Sheraton. TheMetroWest Chamber of Commerce says it will likely become an annual event. Close to 50 vendors served appetizers, entrees, beverages and desserts. From BBQ short ribs to Mexican, to Chinese to healthy pasta options, there was something for everyone.
