Natick High School Honors Speech Team

Here are 5 things to know today in Natick.

1. The Natick High School speech team recently participated in the highly competitive Yale University Speech Tournament, and for their efforts they were named the Students of the Week last week.

The team placed 10th overall out of 181 schools, by far the smallest contingent to receive a team sweepstakes award.

Those on the team are: Jeffrey Heithmar, Ryan Ward, Joseph Guidi, Dani Rosen, Jenna Davidson, Julia Grace, Sofia Safran,Anna Meyer, and Marie Libbin. 

Those who won individual awards were:
  • Joseph Guidi, Oratory Octofinalist
  • Julia Grace, Oratory Quarterfinalist
  • Ryan Ward, Extemp Quarterfinalist
  • Jeff Heithmar, Humourous Interp 4th Place
  • Jenna Davidson & Jeff Heithmar, Duo Interp 3rd Place
  • Marie Libbin, Oral Interp Champion
2. BOKS (Building Our Kids Success) is a free, before school physical activity program offered at the Wilson Middle School to grades 5 - 7. BOKS runs Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 7-7:30 am. BOKS uses fun games and relays to prepare children for a day of learning. The program is an important step in helping children gain an appreciation of the benefits of exercise and healthy choices that will last a lifetime. More information can be found in the Virtual Backpack. 3. The Natick School Committee and the Natick Board of Selectmen have voted to establish a building committee to assist and advise the Natick School Committee with studying the feasibility of a project to renovate, to expand, or to replace the Kennedy Middle School. The building committee will recommend actions in any and all phases of the investigation and implementation of such a project. This committee of up to 15 people will include the following voting members:
  • The Superintendent of Natick Public Schools
  • The Town Administrator
  • The business manager of Natick Public Schools
  • The Director of Facilities
  • The Principal of Kennedy Middle School
  • The chair of the Natick School Committee
  • A member of the Board of Selectmen, chosen by the Board of Selectmen
  • A person chosen by the Planning Board
  • A person chosen by the Finance Committee
  • Up to 6 persons to be chosen by majority vote of the School Committee and the Board of Selectmen sitting in joint session on October 21, 2013.
Residents of Natick who are interested in serving are requested to deliver a written statement of their interest and a summary of relevant experience by October 14, 2013 to Sharon Reilly, Recording Secretary, Natick School Committee, 13 East Central Street, Natick, MA  01760.Preference shall be given to applicants with experience in architectural design, engineering, construction, development, or project oversight including past service on a town building committee.
