Natick Women's Tennis Team 2nd in National Championship

Here are 5 things to know today in Natick.

1. The women’s tennis team from Natick, representing the USTA New England Section, finished second at the USTA League Adult 40 & Over 4.5+ National Championships held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. 

The Natick team lost to a team from Phoenix, Ariz., 4-1 in the Championship match. Earlier in the day, the Natick team defeated a team from Fairfax, Va., 3-2 in the semifinals. They advanced this far by winning their round-robin flight contested Friday and Saturday.

The team is captained by Maureen Sumner and features Nancy Van Siclen, Alison Albers, Davida Dinerman, Pam Holding, Hope Pascucci, Sally Kellogg, Jennifer Lesnick, Kimberly McCrohon, Susan Corey and plays at the Natick Racquet Club.

2. Johnson School is teaming up with the Common Street Community Church for Cradles to Crayons clothing drive and will be holding a warm winter essentials collection drive items in need are listed below:

  • Children's coats sizes newborn - 14/16  
  • Winter boots and tennis shoes sizes infant/child 0-14/16  
  • Children's warm, winter clothing sizes newborn - 14/16  
  • Hats, gloves, mittens and scarves
A large Cradles to Crayons box will be in the Johnson School Lobby. You may drop your donations off there. Clothing drive will be going on until Nov. 1.

3. Brown School will hold its Halloween Parade on Oct. 31 at 9:30 a.m.  Watch the kids in the costume parade. No weapons, face paint, or masks allowed.

Wednesday: Mainly cloudy skies with some sprinkles or passing light showers between 7am & 11am. Highs in the low 50s.

Thursday: Spooky clouds are still with us. Peek-a-boo sun and a mild, ghastly southerly breeze developing in the afternoon. Passing shower possible, but many dry hours. Highs near 60. Mid/upper 50s for the little little ghosts and goblins!

Friday: Mild, windy and wet with soaking showers likely. Upper 60s despite the clouds and rain. South wind howls. Gusts could be 40-45mph.
