NSTAR: Sunday Power Outage Caused by Equipment Failure

2,300 customers affected.

Numerous Natick residents took to Twitter and Facebook on Sunday to report a sudden power outage near West Central Street and Washington Avenue.

According to NSTAR spokesman Michael Durand, the outage, which happened a little after 2 p.m., was caused by failure of a piece of electrical equipment at the substation on Bishop Street.

"Though the outage initially affected 2,300 customers, we had power restored to over 2,200 of them within four minutes," he told Natick Patch. "The remaining customers got their power back in about 25 minutes."

According to the Natick Police Department's Twitter account, both Natick police and fire departments' communications were disrupted for a short amount of time and were using portable devices until power was restored.
