Why Can’t I Have my Dog at the Natick Farmers Market?

Several residents have noticed the new signs asking visitors not to bring their pets this year.

The Natick Farmers Market has been on the Natick Common for 15 years, but this year they’ve made one change to improve the safety of their patrons but it also means leaving your best friend at home.

For the first time leaders of the farmers market are asking animal owners to leave their pets at home or keep them at other parts of the common that aren’t shared by buyers and sellers.

The decision came after a dog became excited in the crowd last year and nipped at a young girl. In addition several dogs have taken to eating the fresh food.

“We did not make this request lightly,” a representative of the farmers market said on Facebook. “But for food and child safety we felt it appropriate.”
