Natick Resident Earns Oscar Nod for Best Animated Short Film

Natick resident Dan Golden, along with Daniel Sousa, earned an Oscar nomination "Feral" in best animated short film.

Natick was abuzz yesterday after learning a feature film shot in town earned a whopping 10 Academy Award nominations.

What many may not know is one of their own is also in the running for the coveted Oscar.

Natick resident Dan Golden, a sound and visual designer, along with director/producer Daniel Sousa, earned an Oscar nomination for "Feral" in best animated short film.

"Feral" is a 13-minute fictional animated film that draws on historical accounts of abandoned children, how they might have survived in the wild and how they were re-assimilated into society when they were found.

The film tells the story of a wild boy found in the woods by a solitary hunter and brought back to civilization. 

"Feral" won three awards at the Annecy International Animation Festival in France last year.

"American Hustle," the feature film shot in Natick, received 10 nominations including:

  • Best picture;
  • Best director: David O. Russell;
  • Best lead actor: Christian Bale;
  • Best lead actress: Amy Adams;
  • Best supporting actor: Bradley Cooper;
  • Best supporting acress: Jennifer Lawrence.
The Academy Awards will air live on ABC on March 2, starting at 7 p.m.
