Hundreds Flood Natick Mall Apple Store for New iPhone

The line started forming at 5 a.m. and the store opened two hours early for those wishing to buy the new smartphone.

Every customer waiting in line was greeted by a handshake and hello by an Apple Store employee. It's the least they could do for customers who entered the Natick Mall at 5 a.m. hoping to be one of the first customers to purchase the new iPhone 5s or 5c.

The Natick Mall doesn't usually open for business until 10 a.m., but management gave the Apple Store the OK to open two hours early when hundreds formed a line outside the store.

Apple employees said they could not comment on iPhones sold or the number of customers they had greeted on Friday.

A mall security guard said there had been no issues regarding unruly customers and about 500 people had either entered the store or were still waiting in line at about 9:30 a.m.

Both the new iPhone 5s and the 5c — the more affordable version of the smartphone — went on sale Friday in the first major Apple release in roughly a year.
