Marcantano Named President/CEO of Women & Infants Hospital

Dennis D. Keefe, president and chief executive officer of Care New England, this week announced that Mark R. Marcantano of Natick has been named president and chief operating officer of Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island.  Marcantano has been serving as acting president since October 2013. 

“I am so pleased to officially welcome Mark Marcantano to the helm at Women & Infants.  I am confident he will carry on the proud traditions and take Women & Infants to its next level of excellence,” said Keefe. 

Marcantano said, “I am overjoyed. It is very exciting to have the opportunity to lead Women & Infants Hospital forward in this era of health care reform and to be a part of Dennis Keefe’s vision to build the integrated delivery system for Care New England.”

I truly believe that this can be achieved through a commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and the patient experience,” continued Marcantano.  “To guide us this year, I have four priorities for Women & Infants:  to provide the highest quality care and best experience to our patients and families; to reduce cost and become more efficient; to recruit and retain the best and the brightest talent; and to continue to advance research and innovation.”

Prior to being named acting president, Marcantano served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Women & Infants since January 2010.  He came to Women & Infants from Boston Children’s Hospital where he served as vice president of ambulatory and network services.  In this capacity, he was responsible for operations, budgeting, financial performance, business planning, and facility planning for ambulatory services on the hospital’s main campus, as well as nine other network locations and a Community Health Center which recorded 55,000 visits annually.

Prior to his position at Boston Children’s Hospital, Marcantano was executive dean, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Albany Medical College, affiliated with Albany Medical Center, in New York.  He was instrumental in recruiting new researchers, shepherding the renovation of facilities, and transforming traditional academic departments into entrepreneurial centers of excellence.

Marcantano earned a bachelor of science degree in finance from New York University and went on to earn his juris doctor from Albany Law School of Union University.  He currently serves as a member of the boards of Meeting Street and the Women & Infants Health Care Alliance.
