Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, a multi-specialty physician practice with offices across eastern Massachusetts and an affiliate of Atrius Health, has named Dr. Juliana Szakacs senior medical director. Szakacs will continue to oversee Harvard Vanguard’s pathology and laboratory services and will also be responsible for imaging, pharmacy and physical therapy services.
“Dr. Szakacs has been an integral member of the Harvard Vanguard team for the last nine years,” said Harvard Vanguard Interim Chief Medical Officer Dr. Steven Lampert. “We are excited to welcome Dr. Szakacs to this new role and look forward to her continued success.”
Szakacs joined Harvard Vanguard in 2005 as the specialty director for pathology and laboratory services, tackling the challenge of redeveloping Harvard Vanguard’s laboratory. Under her leadership, Harvard Vanguard opened a new central lab in Needham that now performs 93% of the medical group’s testing in-house.
Prior to joining Harvard Vanguard, Szakacs worked in Utah as the director of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Salt Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and later as the pathology course director and director of autopsy services at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
Szakacs received her medical degree from the University of South Florida and completed two residencies, one in family medicine at the Medical Center of Beaver County in Pennsylvania, and the other in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of South Florida.
She is a resident of Natick, Mass.
