Community Corner

ASD & Me at the Morse Institute Library in Natick

My name is Gretchen Leary. I am the author of the children's book "Really, Really Like Me," and I have Asperger Syndrome.

As most of the world around us knows, Autism Awareness Month is in April. It seems like most of the world knows of Autism and Aspergers but they might not know what it looks like in person and beyond the stereotypes that Hollywood has created for our community.

I have decided to do a short special presentation on what it is like, for me, as an adult with Aspergers. Everyone on the Autism Spectrum is different but I felt that by sharing my story it might help others in the community who struggle with this  know they are not alone and for those who do not know about Aspergers at all, to get a new lens to see what it feels like from my perspective.

The sensory issues, the social issues, and other issues attributed to this disorder don't go away when a child grows up, and I think if you can see the world through my eyes, you might find a different perspective on individuals with Aspergers.

The event is free to attend and will be held at the Morse Institute Library on April 26,2014 at 2PM. If you would like to attend or have any questions, please feel free to call me at 781-708-6268 or send me an email at gretchenleary@yahoo.com.
