Disney's Sleeping Beauty, Kids!

DISNEY’S SLEEPING BEAUTY, KIDS! APPEARS MAGICALLY IN WELLESLEY 

Wellesley Theatre Project invites you to enjoy A Little Magic Now

For Immediate Release: (Wellesley, MA)...Wellesley Theatre Project (WTP) will present the musical, Disney’s SLEEPING BEAUTY, KIDS Friday, July 12 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, July 13 at 2:00 PM. All performances will take place at the Wellesley High School Auditorium, 50 Rice Street, Wellesley. Tickets are priced $12 for adults and $6 for students and seniors, and may be purchased at the door or online at www.wellesleytheatreproject.org.

Adapted from Disney’s 1959 animated film, Disney's SLEEPING BEAUTY, KIDS features songs from the 1890 ballet by Tchaikovsky and includes the hit song "Once Upon a Dream". This classic fairytale told Disney-style follows princess Aurora from birth to her sixteenth birthday when the evil sorceress Maleficent casts a spell on her. Fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather use their magic to save Princess Aurora from the spell of the evil sorceress (with a little help from Prince Phillip and true love's kiss of course).

A talented cast and crew of 25 Summer Production Camp students between the ages of six and fourteen who bring to life the characters of this fairy tale classic. Cast members of Disney's SLEEPING BEAUTY, KIDS reside in Wellesley as well as neighboring communities including, Weston, Waban, Needham, Natick, Newton, Wayland, Framingham, Chestnut Hill, Southborough, and Sudbury. Director Hannah Shihdanian says, “The kids have worked together to bring this magical story to life. In only ten days they used the tools we have given them along with their own strengths to tell their unique version of Sleeping Beauty.”

Disney's SLEEPING BEAUTY, KIDS production staff includes: Hannah Shihdanian, Director and Resident Choreographer; James Murphy, Musical Director; and Ben Rush, Technical Director and WTP Co-Founder. The music and lyrics are by Pyotr IIyich Tchaikovsky, George Bruns, Tom Adair, Winston Hibler, Ted Sears, Sammy Fain and Jack Lawrence. Music adapted and arranged and additional music and lyrics are by Bryan Louiselle. The book is adapted and additional lyrics by Marcy Heisler.

Wellesley Theatre Project is an arts academy and a Wellesley nonprofit devoted to providing students (PreK - 12th Grade) with the opportunity to study and experience theatre and performing arts through year round classes, staged productions, workshops and summer camps.

Registration is open for WTP’s 2013 Summer Camps. The summer sessions continue with two production camps geared for students between 2nd and 12th grade in addition to 1-week morning Theatre Arts camps for Pre K-1st grade. The production camps are: Shrek, the Musical (Grades 2-12), and RENT, the Musical (School Edition) (Grades 9-12).
