Natick resident to star in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

MOONSTRUCK THEATER COMPANY, in association with Amazing Things Art Center of Framingham, is pleased to present the Tony Award winning musical Little Shop of Horrors, opening Friday, October 18, and running for seven performances through October 27. Performances will take place at Amazing Things Art Center, 160 Hollis St., Framingham, MA.

Little Shop of Horrors tells the tale of Seymour Krelborn, a floral assistant on Skid Row who purchases an exotic plant with a shocking secret. As Seymour leverages his newfound fame to woo his lovely coworker, Audrey, he also battles for control over the increasingly persistent perennial. This hilarious show is a both a loving send up of 1950s B-movies and a cautionary tale about the power of greed. Immortalized on film by Ellen Greene and Rick Moranis, with music by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Newsies) and book & lyrics by Howard Ashman, Little Shop of Horrors is a theatrical experience like no other--just in time for Halloween!

Little Shop of Horrors features Natick resident TJ Rufo as Seymour, the florist who finds mired in a miasma of his own making.

Rufo, a French teacher at Natick High School, is a longtime fan of Little Shop: “It has been one of my favorite musicals since I saw the movie version as a little boy,” he says, “and Seymour is one of my dream roles.” This marks Rufo’s second outing with Moonstruck Theater Company, after playing a Kit Kat Boy in their summer production of Cabaret, “I had an amazing time over the summer, so I was extremely eager to work with everyone again.” He finds the show’s unique, campy style a major draw, and thinks audiences of all ages will find something to love.

Rufo has been involved in theater since the late 1990’s, where he got his start in Oliver with the Natick Drama Workshop. Since then he’s had many of memorable experiences and played many great roles; two that come to mind are Enoch Snow in Carousel, and Harry in Company, where he met Moonstruck Theater Company’s founder, Caroline Fonseca.
