We know from the world around us and even in within our very own communities that it is of deep importance for high school students to engage in conversation around the topic of healthy relationships. To raise this conversation in a formal and safe setting – Temple Shir Tikva, in collaboration with the Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Fund and Wayland Clergy Association, will host a presentation of “the Yellow Dress” THIS Sunday, December 8th at 1pm.
“The Yellow Dress” is a powerful one-woman drama that stimulates a thought-provoking discussion about relationships. The actress portrays the progression of an abusive relationship, starting with young love and ending in tragedy. The program will consist of a 30-minute performance and a 30-minute interactive discussion with the actress, clergy, and a trained professional from REACH, a local non-profit organization that provides safety and support to survivors of abuse and works with communities to promote healthy relationships and prevent domestic violence. We anticipate that Lauren’s mother, Mary Dunne, will speak to us that afternoon, as well. The play will help students recognize the different types of dating violence, how to identify the early warning signs, and where to seek help if they or a friend are involved in a violent relationship.
“The Yellow Dress” program is produced and directed by Deana’s Educational Theater, a non-profit organization based in Wakefield, MA, dedicated to promoting healthy relationships through teaching audiences of all ages about dating violence, harassment and respect. Deana’s Educational Theater, formerly known as Deana’s Fund, was established in 1994 after the death of Deana Brisbois, a young woman from Topsfield, MA, who was a victim of dating violence.
This program is most impactful when parents and teens attend together.
