Travel & Taste: Kenya : Humpbacks not Lions

Tourists flock to the savannas and lakes of Kenya eager to encounter the intriguing wildlife living there. The conservation and preservation of black rhinos, elephants, lions, cheetahs and the spectacular wildebeest migration are the topics that dominate our visions of East Africa. However, Watamu, on the coast of Kenya, is the home of East Africa's first Marine National Park. Learn how local businesses, woman's groups, artists, and non-profits have partnered to create a novel model of community conservation. Working together their efforts help to conserve marine mammals, coastal mangroves, promote local sustainability, and create an economic mechanism that promotes community organized recycling. Don't worry there will still be plenty of photos of lions and elephants!
