The MutualOne Charitable Foundation has awarded $7,200 to Jewish Family Service of MetroWest to support continuation of a Patient Navigation pilot program focusing on health and wellness for seniors in Framingham and Natick.

The program provides trained volunteer Patient Navigators to accompany local seniors in need of assistance to doctors’ appointments and medical procedures, providing a written summary of each appointment for the benefit of the patient and his or her family caregiver.

The volunteers also assess the vital needs of the patients they serve and facilitate access to additional resources and services required by the patient through Jewish Family Services  or from within the community.

“This program has the potential of helping even more senior citizens achieve and sustain their health and independence,” said Mark R. Haranas, president and CEO of MutualOne Bank and a trustee of the MutualOne Charitable Foundation. “Those are goals worthy of supporting here in our community.”

The  $7,200 grant to Jewish Family Service of Metrowest was among awards totaling $63,385 made by the Foundation in its most recent round of funding.

The MutualOne Charitable Foundation is a continuation of the Framingham Co-operative Bank Charitable Foundation following the 2012 merger of Framingham Co-operative Bank and Natick Federal Savings Bank. Since it was originally established in 1998, the Foundation has donated over $2.3 million to charitable, educational, and civic initiatives that improve and enhance the quality of life in Framingham, Natick, and surrounding communities.
