From Bad to Worse: Coakley Limping into Convention, Struggling in Recent Polls

BOSTON – After weeks of unforced errors bringing back the nightmares of her failed 2010 race, Martha Coakley is getting even more bad news as the polls show she is losing ground to Charlie Baker statewide and apparently trailing far behind in a survey of convention delegates.

“The public is starting to see that the Martha Coakley of 2010 is the Martha Coakley of 2014 and this reality is reflected in the latest Boston Globe poll,” said Kirsten Hughes MassGOP chairman. “Given her recent illegal actions, unforced errors and the latest poll results, it is not surprising voters are starting to see just how out of touch and weak a candidate she really is.”

Background:

Martha Coakley Trails Behind Other Democratic Candidates. “…A survey of delegates to the upcoming Massachusetts Democratic convention suggests that Steve Grossman is poised to lead the voting for governor, with Don Berwick and Martha Coakley running even with each other, with enough support to qualify for the September primary ballot.” (David Bernstein, “The Delegates Are High on Steve Grossman,” Boston Magazine, 6/5/14).

Martha Coakley Losing Ground to Charlie Baker. “Republican Charlie Baker has narrowed the gap with Democratic Attorney General Martha Coakley in the Massachusetts governor’s race, signaling a potentially tight contest this fall, according to a new Boston Globe poll.” (Josh Miller and Frank Phillips, “A close race for governor ahead,” The Boston Globe, 6/6/14).

Gubernatorial Candidate, Martha Coakley Caught Parking Illegally. “Democrat Martha Coakley has run into another flap with her state-issued car, as Republicans caught her state security detail parking in tow zones while she dashed to campaign fund-raisers.”(Stephanie Ebbert, “Martha Coakley, state’s top cop, nabbed parking in tow zones during campaign fundraisers,” The Boston Globe, 5/29/14).

Martha Coakley used taxpayer dollars to fund campaign travel for over four years. “Attorney General Martha Coakley did not reimburse Massachusetts for more than four years of travel to campaign and political events in a state vehicle, dating back to the month after her 2010 US Senate loss, according to her campaign and a review of state campaign finance filings.” (Joshua Miller, “Coakley to reimburse Mass. for political travel,”The Boston Globe, 5/21/14)
