Natick Veteran Dead at 87

Raymond Murphy leaves sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Raymond Yates Murphy, 87, died September 5 at l.

He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian W. (Fox) Murphy for fifty four years, who died in 2000. He was the son of the late George and Hilda Yates Murphy. He is survived by three daughters; Jean Markola of Plymouth, Patricia Hall and her husband David, Rosemary Trakadas and her husband Nicolas both of Natick, two sons, John and his wife Kyle of Bellingham and Kevin and his wife Kathleen of Mendon. Sixteen grandchildren, Paul and Eric Markola, Matthew Reera, Jennifer McGill and her husband Ron, Stephen Hall and his wife Stephanie, Lauren Bradford and her husband Everett, Jeffrey, Daniel, and Janel Wasilewski, Stephen Trakadas, Kristen, Tyler, Morgan, Jillian, Paige, and Griffin Murphy. Seven Great-Grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Emma, and Lillian Markola, Cameron and Connor McGill, Natalie and Lauren Hall. He was the brother of the late William, George, Howard, Edmund and Gordon Murphy. He is also survived by his devoted friend Kay Meaney.

Born in Round Pond, Maine, he lived in Providence, Rhode Island prior to his enlisting in the Navy Air Force in 1943, where he was a flight engineer. After his discharge he was employed by the F.W. Woolworth Co. for thirteen years, he managed the store in Natick for seven years until it closed in 1960. He then was employed by the Wellesley Press as a purchasing agent, where he remained until his retirement in 1991.

He was a life member of the and the . Raymond lived life to the fullest. He loved to travel, and did everything full throttle. Raymond will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
