Bottle Breaking Season Has Begun
Bottle Breaking Season Has Begun: to all my friends and folks who may live in the Coolidge Hill neighborhood (Natick): I need your help. Alerted by my dear friend, Trail Buddy, and avid runner, Dan Dick, I ventured to the summit this afternoon. Dan had reported recent bottle breaking and trashing. The "hard core party people" are back. There was evidence of fire, hard liquor, and big boy beer bottles smashed at the rocky summit (Natick's only little "bald top.") They had almost destroyed the MassCor Recycle Bin. But Dan had bent it back into shape, and I took my leather-man tool and fixed it a bit more. Replaced the old trash barrel and took away all the trash, glass, etc. Picked up most of the larger pieces of glass. Problem: we have conducted 8 major "Sweeps" of the Summit in the past three years. We've been up their with shop vacs, rakes, dust pans, generators...you name it. Volunteers literally pick up the glass fragments by hand. We will not let it go back to a the way it once was -- all trashed and covered in broken glass. It's one of Natick's great treasurers; I call it a jewel in the crown. Help me with this challenge. All I need is 6 - 10 people to walk the hill maybe once or twice a week. If you don't have time to pick up, simply report back to me and I'll get up there ASAP and fix it. The view is still inspiring and spectacular. Not even the hard core party people can take that away from us. BTW, let's find some ways to engage those lost souls who feel the need to go up there, drink, and break bottles. --pat
