Brief Update: Natick Trails

Pegan Cove Park: Monday, 1/27, Trail Buddy, Tom Lally, and I made the rounds.  Most areas in excellent shape.  A little trash near the Frog Pond where people had been skating a few days earlier.  But they had made use of the BHLF Trash and Buddy Bin.  Infamous "fire pit" area also in great shape.  Bridge over lower brook still working well.  (Many thanks to George Eckert, his son, Thomas, Tom Lally and others who helped us repair it a couple of years ago.)  Parking area pretty good too.  Sadly a fair amount of trash tossed over the guard rail along Washington Ave (west side) on the approach leading up to the Railroad Bridge.  Retains its dubious distinction as one of Natick's "Dirty Two Dozen."  But we're working on it.
Proposed Cochituate Rail Trail section near Kansas St. and Rte 27: Wed, 1/29, worked solo on a patch of nasty bittersweet strangling trees along the wood buffer between Rte 27 and the trail.  Not sure why CSX or NSTAR allows these vines to grow like this.  Not only do they look horrible, but they're going to topple the trees right onto the power lines and roadway. I heard a few of the trees "gasp a sigh of relief" and thank me for my morning work.  Also picked up a fair amount of trash along the roadway and sidewalk.  --Pat
