Newton Man Charged with Larceny

The Natick Police Department supplied the following information. It does not indicate a conviction.

John Jefferson Smith, 51, of Boylston Street in Newton, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. on July 10, and charged with larceny over $250 by a single scheme.

According to police, an officer was sent to the Home Depot on Speen Street for a report of a male shoplifter fleeing the store. The man was described as white, with a white top, and gray hair, and he took off near the Avalon Apartments.

A couple of minutes later, the man was in custody and police learned there was a second man involved in the scheme. That man was described as black, in his 30s, with black cargo pants, with a white shirt.
