Sheriff's Youth Public Safety Academy Comes To Natick

Children from Natick are having the opportunity to meet the town's emergency responders during the Middlesex Sheriff's Youth Public Safety Academy this week.
On Wednesday the 32 participants got a chance tour the Natick Police and Fire Department. Then they went to the Kennedy Middle School for team building exercises and some fun in the sun.
More than 1,700 children will participate through the eight weeks of the camp, an increase over past years.
"We've made sure to reach out to children with special needs and underprivileged children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in something like this," Sheriff Peter Koutoujian said.
The kids toured the police department with Chief James Hicks where they got to see all the different tools the department has to keep the community safe.
"When they came to the field today they were all talking about what they learned about calling 911," Koutoujian said. "They learned what to tell the dispatcher and when they should or shouldn't call."
