Apple Computer Honors Natick Public Schools Program

District honored with the Apple Distinguished Program for 2013-14 for its 1-to-1 laptop program in grades eight to 12.

Apple Computer recognized Natick Public Schools on Friday for its laptop program.

According to Natick PS, it was honored with the Apple Distinguished Program for 2013-14 for its 1-to-1 laptop program in grades eight to 12.

"Being an Apple distinguished Program highlights our success as an innovative and compelling school district that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment,” Superintendent Peter Sanchioni said in a statement forwarded to Natick Patch.

Apple representatives will attend the School Committee meeting on Jan. 27 to hand out the award.

The Apple Distinguished Program designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence, and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments.

“While Natick has always been a high-functioning district, working as a system to maximize our instructional programs and practices through the 1:1 laptop program has allowed us to extend our reach and effectiveness as an educational community," Assistant Superintendent Anna Nolin said in a statement. "The Natick district has positioned itself as an instructional innovator.”

Natick PS is in the process of creating plans for the sustainability of the 1:1 program and  enhancing the use of technology in grades K-7.
