Doug Flutie Returns Home for Honor at TD Garden

Natick native to be trumpeted at The Tradition at TD Garden on Sept. 17.

Doug Flutie, the former Heisman Trophy winner at Boston College some 29 years ago, and former Natick resident, will return to Massachusetts from his Florida home to take part in the 12th annual Tradition, the signature celebration of Boston sports, at TD Garden on Sept. 17.

"Great to be recognized for your career,’’ Flutie told the Boston Globe. “Something like this is for an entire body of work, I guess. And it’s always nice to be back in Boston, with friends . . . I don’t know, honestly, I’m not one who likes making a big deal, you know?’’

Flutie moved his family to Melbourne, Fla., permanently earlier this year. Their South Natick home in still on the market.

Flutie, who had a stellar career in the CFL, and had two stints with the New England Patriots, is best known for his Hail Mary pass to roommate Gerard Phelan against the Miami Hurricanes his senior year at BC.
