Troy Flutie a Finalist for ESPN's Mr. Football Award

Natick's senior quarterback has 40 touchdown passes and 6 TD rushes this season.

ESPNBoston.com and its high school sports staff named its five finalists for the fourth annual ESPNBoston.com Mr. Football Award, given to the best overall player in Massachusetts.

Among the finalists is Natick's own Troy Flutie.

The senior quarterback has had a stellar season, completing 62 percent of his passes for 2,754 yards and 40 touchdowns. Flutie has also been a threat in the Redhawks' running game with 91 rushes for 812 yards and six touchdowns.

Flutie led the Redhawks to the second round of the MIAA Division 2 South tournament this year.

According to ESPN, "the Boston College commit is the state's all-time leader in passing touchdowns (105) and passing yards (8,741); with four TD passes on Thanksgiving against Framingham, he would tie the single-season mark held by 2011 Mr. Football winner Jonathan DiBiaso of Everett (44)."

The winner will be announced on Dec. 9, with the recipient being presented the award at Gillette Stadium before an upcoming New England Patriots home game.

Natick plays host to Thanksgiving Day rival Framingham Thursday at 10 a.m.
