Symposium Will Teach Protection of Natick Water Supply

The third annual Lake Cochituate Watershed Council is this Saturday, March 24.

Residents are invited to the third annual Cochituate Watershed Symposium this Saturday to learn about the watershed, invasive species and how storm water runoff can impact the town's water supply.

Natick, Ashland, Wayland, Framingham and Sherborn all share the 17 sq. mile watershed

Three keynote speakers will share their expertise, including Executive Director of the Massachusetts Watershed Coalition Ed Himlan, SuAsCo Watershed Community Council Executive Director Nancy Bryant and coordinator for the Massachusetts Lakes and Ponds Program from the Department of Conservation and Recreation, Tom Flannery. Community Organizer of Toxics Action, Taryn Hallweaver will also discuss toxins that can harm the town's water. Volunteer and founder of Big Heart Little Feet, Pat Conaway, and Chair for Protect Our Water Resources Carole Berkowitz will also be in attendance.

"The general public has a shaky understanding of what a watershed actually is... the issue of storm water runoff is a major problem," said Conaway. "We're trying to get people aware of how this system works and what they can do to help."
