As a registered Nurse, Butka proudly served her country in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WWII in England. After the war, she was employed as an emergency nurse at Marlborough Hospital, an industrial nurse at the General Motors Factory in Framingham and finished her nursing career as school nurse at Kane Elementary School in Marlborough. Tim Taylor, Former Yale Hockey Coach and Natick Native, Loses Battle with Cancer

He was 71.

Tim Taylor, who was born and raised in Natick and coached the Yale hockey team for 30 years, dies on Saturday after a lengthy battle with cancer, according to United States College Hockey Online. Taylor was born March 26, 1942, in Natick. He attended Harvard, where he captained the 1963 Ivy League championship team. He served as Yale's head coach from 1976-2006, compiling a record of 342-433-55 over that time, twice taking a year off to coach in the Olympic Games- as an assistant in 1984 and the head coach in 1994. Among the awards and accolades Taylor received during his career was the 1998 Spencer Penrose Award as the Division 1 Coach of the Year and in 2006 he received USA Hockey's Distinguished Achievement Award. Natick Loses Family Man, Shamrock Society Founding Member, Retired Engineer

John J. Furey, 80, of Natick and Dennis, died Sunday, Feb. 10, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Katherine R. (Kelley) Furey, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. A Natick resident for 51 years, he was born in Watertown, son of the late Thomas J. and Ella (Cunningham) Furey. Mr. Furey worked for 38 years as an engineer for the Microwave Development Laboratories of Needham. He was a long time member of St. Linus Parish, a Natick Elks Life member, and a founding member of the Shamrock Society of Natick. Mr. Furey enjoyed summers on Cape Cod and was an avid photographer. Natick Firefighter Loses Battle with Cancer

Joseph T. Slattery died on Sunday from Sarcoma.

Joseph T. Slattery, a member of IAFF Local Firefighters 1707 with the Natick Fire Department, lost his battle with Sarcoma on Sunday, according to the union's website. Slattery will receive a full Line of Duty ceremony as family, friends and other firefighters say goodbye and honor his life. The calling hours will be on Friday, February 1 at John Everett & Sons Funeral Home from 3-7 p.m. The funeral mass will be at St. Patrick's Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. A Natick native, and an Italian immigrant, both men shared a love of cars and craftmanship.

Thomas Lovezzola, 68, of Pooler, GA, died on Tuesday, January 8. Born and raised in Natick, he pursued his love of cars into a lifelong career. He started out at Bernie’s Auto Body in Natick and then was employed at Regan & Stapleton in Wellesley for many years. He also restored antique cars as a hobby. He is survived by 3 daughters, Lisa Lovezzola of Maynard, Michele Provencal of Douglas, and Krista Lovezzola of Hopedale, as well as 2 grandchildren. His funeral will be at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home on Friday, January 18, at 9 a.m. to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s Church at 10 a.m . Joseph R. "Mickey" McHugh died January 5 at the age of 79. Born in Boston, he was raised in Newton, and joined the U.S. Marines after high school. He is survived by his wife, Pearla and son, Darren, both of Natick, and 2 granddaughters. He was predeceased by a son, David. His burial will take place at the National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne on Wednesday, January 16, at 1 p.m. Catherine T. (Manning) Hagemeister, 85, died Thursday, January 10.
