Wilson and Kennedy Middle Schools will be extending their second term nearly one week after missing four days due to snow.
After missing four days of school this term, both middle schools in Natick will be extending their second trimester for one week, according to a newsletter emailed by Wilson Middle School principal Anna Nolin. "This change allows teachers to meet their pacing requirements and allows special area teachers all of the precious time they need to complete their projects with your children," Nolin wrote. Grades will now close on March 22, while report cards, ISSPs and special education progress reports will go home on Thursday, March 28.

Students at Wilson Middle School have been participating in a Harvard Medical School study that is trying to show the benefits of exercise in kids with ADHD. The study, which gets kids involved with cycling, has shown that treating ADHD is not just about giving children medication. Kennedy Middle School has also been involved with exercise has a way to keep their students focused for a while now. The even have fitness breaks, which can be watched on YouTube. The exercise programs at the Natick middle schools have been successful so far and will continue, and there is also talk about expanding them to the high school.

A group of 6th graders at the Kennedy Middle School won $40,000 worth of technology in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest, and now public voting is open to determine who will win an additional $70,000.
The Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest encourages students to find a problem in their community and use science, math and technology to solve it. Kennedy Middle School 6th graders entered the contest this year with a video about composting in Natick and out of over 1,600 entries they were chosen as one of the top 15 entries, winning $40,000 in technology for the school. Now, five of the top 15 finalists in the contest have an opportunity to win an additional $70,000. School Resource Officer Elizabeth Heffler is changing the way middle school kids interact by rewarding them for positive behavior.
Middle school is a time of life where coming into your own is the goal and learning who you are in a sea of other beings can be a daunting task. According to School Resource Officer Elizabeth Heffler, being in middle school is not easy and kids are often unsure about who they are and who they are becoming. As a result, good manners and random acts of kindness are often hard for them to perform. "I spend every lunch with these kids at both middle schools trying to get to know them," Heffler said. "I know I don't see or hear everything, but I do try to engage with the kids and teach them to respect one another."
