The Natick Education Foundation recognized three winners of the Shining Light Awards at TCAN Wednesday night.
Although there are many who contribute to the education of Natick's students, three outstanding award winners earned the spotlight at the Natick Education Foundation Shining Light Awards Wednesday night. Second and third-grade teacher at Lilja Elementary, Abbie Fox, was recognized at the 2012 Educator Shining Light Award. A group of Fox's students supported her on the TCAN stage while parents spoke of her passion for the classroom and her role as a "teacher of teachers." One parent speaker cried as she said that Fox "respects every child's unique place in the world." One spot is open on the committee to select recipients of the annual Mathworks college scholarship.
The town is looking to fill a vacancy on the Mathworks Four-Year Scholarship Award Committee, a spot recently vacated by the resignation of member Howard Wilcox. The committee chooses two students every year to receive a $20,000 college scholarship from Mathworks. Members will advertise the scholarship, review applications, give interviews, choose the recipients and update the Board of Selectmen on the state of the scholarship fund. An individual with education experience at the college level is preferred.
