When Should You Talk to Children About Sex?

Share your thoughts about this week's Raising Natick question for parents.

Each week, Raising Natick asks Natick moms and dads questions that all parents are wondering. This week, we want to hear what you have to say about when you think it is appropriate to have the feared s-e-x talk with your children? How do you plan to handle it or how have you already handled it with your older children? Share your advice or questions with other parents in the comments section below. Let's get the discussion started!

Constantly. Whenever they ask! Probably due to the fact that I was pregnant and DD had a lot of questions, she knew it all by the time she was about 3 1/2. I think she's probably forgotten some of it since then. If they have questions then answer them. If they're not curious, then I suggest buying an age appropriate book. Someone is going to tell them, it may as well be you!   more ›

For my son's 5th Bday last year, I got a Tie-Dye kit, bought some youth t-shirts at Michael's/AcMoore, and we had a Tie Dye Party. I bought trash bags for the kids to wear over their party clothes, and everyone decorated a Tshirt, which was sent home in a ziploc bag with instructions on how to wash/dry the first time so the colors wouldn't bleed. Everyone loved it!!   more ›

Should Kids Be Allowed to Pick Out Their Own Outfits?

Get in on the discussion!

Natick is full of passionate moms and dads just like you. Each week, Patch invites you to share your advise and opinions with other parents around town by giving your take on the question of the week. This week in Natick, we're asking: Should kids be allowed to pick out their own clothes? While some parents may say they wouldn't let their children be seen at school or out and about in a leotard, polka dotted sweater and stripped tights, others argue letting a child pick out his or her own outfits help breed creativity and independence. Is there a correct age to start letting children have this freedom? Let us know what you think in the comments section below and click the share on Facebook and Twitter button above to get your friends in on…

I am a Mother to an extremely head strong 3 1/2 year old; I have tried everything to get her dressed in the morning. I first tried to persuade her to wear what I laid out, but then it became a battle, then I tried laying out three options, still a battle, I have tried to have the patience to let her pick her own, but she riffles through her dirty clothes hamper looking for worn stuff, that I …   more ›

I think some parents do put undue pressure on their children to excel. My son, who is 15, goes to school with kids who need notecards to tell them which activity is next. In my opinion, these kids are WAY too scheduled. Kids need down time. They are in school all day and asked to sit and pay attention; they should not be asked to continue to "go go go" the minute they get home, and eat dinner via…   more ›

Should Children Watch PG-13 and R-Rated Movies Before Their Time?

Get in on the discussion. Share your thoughts in the comments section.

Natick is full of passionate Moms and Dads just like you. Each week, Patch invites you to share your advise and opinions with other parents around town by giving your take on the question of the week. This week in Natick we're asking: Should kids be allowed to watch PG-13 and R-rated movies before they are of age? Does it depend on the movie? Many parents share different philosophies--some wish to shield their children from subject matter in these films, while others believe exposing their children to violence and sexually explicit material in films gives an opportunity for discussion and early education. Let us know what you think in the comments section.

Another good website for movie content is www. kidsinmind.com. The MPAA can be very inconsistent with their ratings and its good to get a more detailed breakdown to know whether a movie is appropriate for my children.   more ›

Sleep away camp isn't for me. I love having my children home during the summer time. Its an opportunity to spend more time with them. I believe that my kids will ask me to go away to summer camp when they are ready to/ want to go.   more ›

That's excellent and I will surely use that technology when my kids get phones! The texting is what scares me most, and not just in the amount of time kids can spend doing it but it can so easily get out of hand with what they say and who they say it about.   more ›
