It's nearing the end of the first school year at the new Natick High School, but a large number of people are still parking illegally.
It's raining in Natick so you don't want to walk all the way from the parking lot to the front door of the new high school. Instead, you decide to park either in the fire lane or the bike lane. Parents, students and even some Town Meeting members have parked illegally at the new Natick High School throughout the year. It doesn't have to be raining. It doesn't have to be because they're just running inside for five minutes. People park in places where they're not supposed to whenever there are events held at the high school. The bike lane in the semi-circle in front of the school is the best example of illegal parking. The After Prom Party will begin at midnight on Friday, May 24 and end at 5 a.m. on May 25 at Natick High School.
For the 25th consecutive year, juniors and seniors at Natick High School, along with their prom guests, will have the opportunity to continue the fun after the prom ends by heading to the After Prom Party. This year's theme is Mardi Gras and will be held in the new Natick High School. "The After Prom Party was a perfect way to have fun with friends, be safe and get a lot of free stuff at the same time," Lily Von Der Lieth, a senior last year, said after last year's party. "There is stuff to do for everyone and it's a great way to have some free fun." The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.

For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about Natick High School's ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses. Josh Hannah, the head of the social studies department at Natick High School, was recently recognized for "Excellence in Education" by the Goldin Foundation.
Josh Hanna, the head of the social studies department at Natick High School, was recently honored at the 23rd annual Goldin Foundation Educators Forum, where he was recognized for "Excellence in Education." "This came as a surprise to me," Hanna said. "I suppose I helped, but I received this mainly because of things the department has done. It's very exciting. "I've had great leaders. There were so many great teachers I learned from early on in my career. I've had an opportunity to learn from so many. I think this makes a statement about a a group of people who provide a great learning opportunity. It's a great place to teach." Digital Conversation to Digital Citizenship to be held Tuesday, May 7 at Natick High School.
The public is invited to an event tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Natick High School entitled, "Digital Conversation to Digital Citizenship." A panel of technology experts from across the country will spend time at Natick High School tomorrow to observe how learning is shifted by the use of technology.
The panel of technology experts who will be leading the Digital Conversation to Digital Citizenship tomorrow night will be visiting Natick High School tomorrow morning to take part in a series of activities so they can see "how learning is shifted by the use of technology," according to Natick Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Karen LeDuc. This series of events is part of the Future Ready statewide initiative that Natick is piloting and also part of Natick being a Project RED signature district. One Natick High science teacher gives the answer on her website.
Did you know that the new state-of-the art Natick High School is LEED Gold Certified? The school achieved this distinction by being environmentally in six different categories, according to Natick High science teacher Susan Haverstick's website. The six different areas that NHS has green measures that enabled them to become LEED Certified, as well as some of the reasons the high school meet the criteria, are: Lastly, did you know that Natick High has five electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot? Patch has verified that at least one staff member drives an electric car and charges his car during the day while at work. Do any students charge an electric car at school during the day? Natick Together for Youth will host an event that will discuss social host laws and teach prevention strategies.
Natick Together for Youth will host a 'Conversation that Matters' on Monday, April 29, from 7-9 p.m. in the Natick High School cafeteria, according to their Facebook Page. Natick Police Chief James Hicks will be at the event, where parents can learn about social host laws and some substance prevention strategies. Monday's Board of Selectmen and School Committee meetings both dealt with issues related to dogs.
Dog talk dominated portions of the School Committee and Board of Selectmen meetings this past Monday. Several parents attended the School Committee meeting to express their dissatisfaction with the School Department's decision to have police canines search Natick High School for drugs. The search, which took place March 12, left many questions in the minds of some parents, such as the effectiveness of the search, which other school districts do this and what costs are associated with doing this. Meanwhile, at the Selectmen's meeting, a group of neighbors led by Bob Doherty testified to the lack of control another area resident had over his two golden retrievers. Okay, seriously, Real Housewife of Natick. Do the math, have you seen the lot? A good portion is taken up by staff, therapists etc... There are 6 preschool classrooms! And people for preschool pick up, do park there. It's just one of those kinks like Mr. Rosen mentioned. Rolling drop off and pick up is how things work at the preschool.
