Firefighters Extinguish Dumpster Blaze on Route 9

The Natick Fire Department responded to a fire in a dumpster on Route 9.

The Natick Fire Department responded to a fire outside Golf Town at 1398 Worcester St., the former La-Z-Boy furniture location on Route 9. The "fully-involved" dumpster fire did not pose any risk to the building, roughly 40 feet away, according to Fire Chief James Sheridan. The cause of the fire is not known at this time. It took firefighters about 10 minutes to extinguish the blaze, Sheridan said.

UPDATED: Crews Work to Restore Power on Route 135

A downed transformer near Route 135 and Cemetery Street has left some without power in the cold weather today.

UPDATE, 3 p.m.: Some homes and businesses are reporting that power has been restored in some areas. Is it still out where you are? Let us know. 2:30 p.m.: NSTAR crews are still working to repair a broken transformer near Route 135 and Cemetery Street, which has left many without power in the area, including those on Summer Street. A resident called Natick Police around 11 a.m. this morning to report that the transformer had blown, according to police Lt. Brian Grassey. The Natick Fire Department and police were called to the scene, but the police call was canceled when it was determined that the incident was not an emergency. Fire Burns Abandoned Structure on Brookdale

A fire in an abandoned building on Brookdale Road caused significant damage to the structure Wednesday afternoon.

A fire in an abandoned Brookdale Road structure caused significant damage Wednesday afternoon. According to fire chief James Sheridan, when the Natick Fire Department arrived at 36 Brookdale Rd., heavy flames were visible. Sheridan said squatters may have been staying in the building, but no one was found and no one was reported injured. The two-alarm fire was extinguished in half an hour, Sheridan said. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and it is uncertain whether or not the structure is a total loss.
