Tim Taylor, who was born and raised in Natick and coached the Yale hockey team for 30 years, dies on Saturday after a lengthy battle with cancer, according to United States College Hockey Online. Taylor was born March 26, 1942, in Natick. He attended Harvard, where he captained the 1963 Ivy League championship team. He served as Yale's head coach from 1976-2006, compiling a record of 342-433-55 over that time, twice taking a year off to coach in the Olympic Games- as an assistant in 1984 and the head coach in 1994. Among the awards and accolades Taylor received during his career was the 1998 Spencer Penrose Award as the Division 1 Coach of the Year and in 2006 he received USA Hockey's Distinguished Achievement Award. Natick lost two longtime citizens and beloved grandmothers over the weekend.
Diane G. (Landi) Heafey, 72 died November 3. Raised in Watertown, she settled in Natick in 1969. She worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance, Western Electric and in the cafeteria at Natick High School. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel, and is survived by 5 children and 11 granchildren. She was buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Carol Ann (Lombard) Considine, 76 died November 3. Born in Brighton, she had lived in Natick for 20 years. She is survived by her husband, Edward, 6 children and 15 grandchildren. The following is courtesy of John Everett & Sons Funeral Home. Francis J. Foley, age 90, a former Natick resident, died on October 24, 2012, at Oak Knoll Healthcare Center in Framingham. Born in Worcester on August 5, 1922, he was the son of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Fullen) Foley, he was raised in Natick by his mother’s sister and her husband, James and Isabella Fair. Francis was a 1940 graduate of Natick High School. He attended Georgetown University for just over two years when he was called to serve with the Army during World War II. Stationed in the European Theatre, he saw action in the Rhineland and Central Europe as an anti tank gunner. When he returned to the states he worked toward completing his Bachelor’s Degree at Boston…

He was the loving husband of the late Guissepina (Salicandro) Loffa. Born, raised and educated in Carife, Avellino, Italy, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Arcangela (Festina) Loffa. Vito worked throughout his life on his family’s farm and raised his own family there. He immigrated to Natick to live with his son after Guissepina’s death in 1992. Born in Livermore, Maine, he was the son of the late Lottie (Ranger) and Asa Hescock and husband to the late Dorothy (Gregory) Hescock. He began working at The Rivers School in Weston in 1961 as a groundskeeper and worked there for 45 years until he retired. The Rivers School recognized Paul’s long service with the Berger-Decker Award in 2002, citing his “leadership, compassion, and selfless spirit” in helping “make the school a better place”. Fr. Angelo “Sonny” Rizzo, age 83, a former missionary and Needham resident, died suddenly on Sunday morning, October 14, at his Natick home. He was the beloved son of the late John and Mary (Ferrara) Rizzo. Born in Boston on January 23, 1929, Sonny was raised in Needham and was a graduate of Boston College High School. He then entered the Stigmatine Fathers’ Seminary in Wellesley and studied both there and in Rome for the next several years. He was ordained in Rome in 1956, and shortly thereafter left for Sao Paolo, Brazil. Father Angelo devoted more than thirty years to the Stigmatine missions in Brazil.
