Josh Hannah, the head of the social studies department at Natick High School, was recently recognized for "Excellence in Education" by the Goldin Foundation.
Josh Hanna, the head of the social studies department at Natick High School, was recently honored at the 23rd annual Goldin Foundation Educators Forum, where he was recognized for "Excellence in Education." "This came as a surprise to me," Hanna said. "I suppose I helped, but I received this mainly because of things the department has done. It's very exciting. "I've had great leaders. There were so many great teachers I learned from early on in my career. I've had an opportunity to learn from so many. I think this makes a statement about a a group of people who provide a great learning opportunity. It's a great place to teach." Hanna has been teaching social studies at Natick High for 13 years and is currently in his third year as the head…

Principals from all nine Natick Public Schools joined Superintendent Peter Sanchioni as they welcomed parents to voice their questions, comments and concerns about bullying.
Superintendent of Natick Public Schools Peter Sanchioni welcomed parents to Town Hall last night as he and the principals of all nine schools in the district were in attendance for a discussion about bullying and the ways to combat it. "We do this on an annual basis," Sanchioni said at the beginning of the meeting. "Getting the award made us feel good, but we know the work isn't done. We always continue to evaluate our efforts." Natick High School principal Rose Bertucci spoke first about a renewed interest in the bullying curriculum the past couple of years. She said that two guidance counselors lead the program, and that there are students on a leadership team. Some of these students even attend a three-day workshop with the Anti-…

The School Committee won't have a say in the NHS mascot name change from Red and Blue, unless it is in violation of school values, as was determined in the decision to change from "Redmen" several years ago.
The Natick School Committee will most likely not be involved in the Natick High School mascot name change as it was 2007. Current Chairman David Margil, who is running for reelection, said during the Natick Forever School Committee Candidate Forum on Wednesday that it is written that it's up to the school principal to decide. Natick High School principal Rose Bertucci announced in February that she is looking for suggestions to replace the current "Red and Blue" team name, which was introduced in 2009 after the original "Redmen" name was deemed offensive to Native Americans. Bertucci said that she will not consider reintroducing the Redmen name, a statement which is causing much controversy amongst those who want to bring back the …

Once known as the Natick Redmen, now the Natick Red and Blue, NHS will look to make another change, with suggestions from the community.
When the Natick High School team name changed to Natick Red and Blue in 2009, it was met with much controversy from residents wanting to keep the traditional "Natick Redmen" name. Since then, some students, staff and other members of the community have been hoping to drop the "Red and Blue" for yet another name—a wish that may soon be granted. On Friday, NHS principal Rose Bertucci announced she will be taking suggestions for a new team name to coincide with the opening of the new high school in September. "The school colors will remain red and blue and the 'N' with the split colors will remain as part of the logo," said Bertucci in a note to families. "With the new school scheduled to open this coming September the time is right to open…
