The Holliston Democratic Town Committee's discussion 'Let's Talk Guns' was full to capacity.
What the Holliston Democratic Committee hoped would be a calm and civil discussion about gun laws and safety in Massachusetts turned in to debate on the rights of gun owners and the specifics of Rep. David Lisky's proposed House Bill 3253. The panel of five experts, specifically Linsky, D-Natick, were asked many questions regarding their beliefs on guns and their knowledge of Massachusetts' laws surrounding gun ownership. "I would have liked people to be a little more civilized but a lot of people came in really fired up,” Beth Greely, chairman of the DTC, said; at several points Greely and others had to quiet down the crowd and remind them not to interrupt other speakers. “Hopefully people got something out of it, that’s always good. …

Congressman Ed Markey sent a letter to Vice President Joe Biden Wednesday calling for a new assault weapons ban and improved background checks, among other measures.
Congressman Ed Markey sent a letter to the vice president Wednesday with proposed recommendations for his task force on guns. In the letter (attached), the Democrat from Malden asks Joe Biden to consider recommending “a new assault weapons ban that includes all semi-automatic weapons capable of accommodating an ammunition magazine greater than 10 rounds.” He also asks the vice president to consider “a ban on ‘drums’ or ‘magazines’ of ammunition that can carry more than 10 bullets, which were used to deadly effect in both the Newtown and Aurora kilings.” “These are weapons designed for war – not for hunting or protecting one’s home – and have no purpose except to kill as many people as possible without the need to reload,” Markey wrote. State Rep. David Linsky will be hosting a legislative meeting to discuss gun violence with members of the House and Senate.
Following the Sandy Hook massacre in Newtown, CT, at least one Massachusetts legislator is looking for "meaningful" changes to gun laws. State. Rep. David Linsky, D-Natick, whose district includes Natick, Sherborn and Millis, will be hosting a gun violence strategy meeting with interested colleagues from the House and Senate on Jan. 3 to discuss the filing of meaningful legislation to reduce gun violence. Linsky said he would really like to see a bill that limits types of guns people can own. “That’s at the top of the list,” he said. “People are appalled at how readily accessible these are. They’re not used for hunting. They’re not used for self-defense.” Legislation must be filed by Jan. 18. “I’ve been involved with anti-gun violence for …
Does the massacre at Newtown, CT, signal the need for a political debate on gun regulations?
Before officials had even held their first press conference Friday, Facebook was abuzz with status updates about the Newtown, CT, massacre. The statuses were split between those sending their condolences and those asking if the country would finally deal with the issue of gun control. Some fought back, asking for respect and mourning before political debate began. Others remained fierce in their belief that stricter gun control regulations would have prevented such a mass killing, saying the victims were shot multiple times and with semi-automatic weapons, according to Fox News. The guns were not illegal and were, in fact, owned by the shooter's mother. Among them were a semi-automatic .223 caliber bushmaster rifle and two handguns. Those …
